This book has been read a few times after purchase and stored in a dark place.
This is the exhibition catalog and first collection of works, fully documenting Kei Imazu's first large-scale solo exhibition, which has been attracting attention since its opening.
Imazu creates works using images collected from media such as the internet and digital archives, processing them with computer applications, and then using the resulting collaged and digitally-marked underdrawings as a basis for oil paintings on canvas.
Since moving his production and living base to Bandung, Indonesia in 2017, he has based his work on field research into issues such as urban development and environmental pollution in Indonesia. He not only directly expresses the problems currently occurring but also combines various archive images on the screen, and by overlapping multiple timelines such as history, mythology, and the evolution and extinction of living things, he develops works that coexist with universality and dynamism.
The exhibition, titled "Tanah Air," uses the Indonesian words "Tanah" (earth) and "Air" (water), which together mean "homeland." Imazu's works, based on his experiences and thoughts in Indonesia, where he currently lives, and Japan, his roots, will also provide an opportunity for us, the viewers, to reflect on our own place and time of living.
This book is a valuable catalog that retraces and archives this exhibition, which focuses on recent works and is composed of five themes, mainly through photographs of the exhibition venue taken by photographer Keizo Kioku.
The illustration pages are bound, giving a light impression while also having a sharp design.
